This Issue begins with an article by Glen Laverack in an examination of visual representations of strategies to build community capacity, which he sees as being closely aligned to the process of community development. Drawing upon his experience in Fiji and Kyrgyzstan Laverack assessing the value of using visual representation in what he describes as a parallel-track approach in relation to capacity building and programme implementation. Laverack argues that the use of visual representations can be especially beneficial to practitioners and the democratisation of information. Paul Henderson
