Diane Russell and Camilla Harshbarger have tried to understand the constraints and opportunities for local partners in conservation. They see this as the first step for social actors and conservationists who want to understand and work with institutions that are significant for local people. They have prepared this book based on their hard-won field experiences in rural regions of the tropics. They have also read case studies from across the globe, as well as sharing in dialogue with local partners living at conservation sites, colleagues from universities, associations, and institutions, as well as with working groups.
